# Migrate the development database
|
|
|
|
- Work from the Buzz Guide repository root.
|
|
- Use `.env.local` as the only database environment source. Stop if it is missing or does not define `DATABASE_URL`.
|
|
- Never use ambient production credentials, `.env.production`, deployment tooling, or a production database URL.
|
|
- When `db/schema.ts` changed and no matching migration exists, run `bun run db:generate` first and inspect the generated SQL.
|
|
- Apply migrations with:
|
|
|
|
```bash
|
|
set -a; source .env.local; set +a; bun run db:migrate
|
|
```
|
|
|
|
- Report the migration filename and explicitly state that only the development database was migrated. Leave production migration execution to the user.
