+# Migrate the development database
+
+- Work from the Buzz Sheet repository root.
+- Use `.env.local` as the only database environment source. Stop if it is missing or does not define `DATABASE_URL`.
+- Never use ambient production credentials, `.env.production`, deployment tooling, or a production database URL.
+- When `db/schema.ts` changed and no matching migration exists, run `bun run db:generate` first and inspect the generated SQL.
+- Apply migrations with:

+  set -a; source .env.local; set +a; bun run db:migrate

+- Report the migration filename and explicitly state that only the development database was migrated. Leave production migration execution to the user.
